Inside Secret: The easiest way to fail at blogging

Although overall I have been fairly successful in my blog endeavors, I have also led one blog into failure. My second blog, which I started once my first blog was earning a few hundred per month, had a great idea behind it. I could write about web design (one of my favorite hobbies) and make some extra money along the way!

A few months later, I find that the blog still had under 10 subscribers and had only earned a measly $10. What was my secret to making the blog fail?

I had no motivation.
I never really felt like that blog was my own. I didn’t put much time into customizing it, and most of the posts there felt rushed. I rarely promoted my blog to anyone… it quickly became a ghost town.

If you don’t have any motivation to make your blog your own, you’ll find that it will fall apart very quickly. Readers can tell if you are actually putting time and effort into your posts, and if you aren’t, you shouldn’t expect to get many subscribers. Furthermore, if you don’t truly feel proud of your blog, it wont be as easy to put time into it. Motivation is the key ingredient to keep your blog running. Without motivation, your blog will quickly spiral downward until it’s near impossible to revive it.

So, what if I’m not feeling motivated, Is my blog doomed?
No, it’s not. Temporary periods with no motivation are totally normal… many people call it “bloggers block”. Usually, you can just leave your blog alone for a day or two and the lack of motivation will pass. If you notice yourself losing motivation for long periods of time, sit down and redo the theme of your blog. If you can feel proud just from looking at your blog, it will be a lot easier to put your time and effort into a good post.

I get Blogger’s Block for days at a time. Sometimes writing begins to feel like a chore, not matter how dear teh topic is to my heart. I have always been a writer in one way, shape or form (copywriter, public relations, advertising, etc.) so I suppose after years and years of depending on writing for my lifeblood — I blank out.
